Glossary

Following are terms and abbreviations that are used to describe Project Portal. Some of these terms are not used in this document.

AD

Microsoft Active Directory Services

Advanced File Management

Optional add-on that provides support for CAD drawings with external references. Previously known as CADRef.

archive file

A single compressed file that contains multiple other files. When created by Project Portal, contains a master file and its external references and the file extension can be .krd or .exe (self extracting).

client

A computer, object, or program that obtains data or services from a server.

content indexing

The process of extracting and indexing text data from document content for full text searching.

criterion

A search filter condition composed of a property name, operator, and value.

current

In general, the object that a user has selected or an object that is currently within the scope of a programming expression. When used in the context of the history of a document, the latest released revision of a document.

data source

An external data file or database that provides data presented by or imported into a BlueCielo ECM system.

database

Used to store document metadata for a Meridian Enterprise vault, Meridian Explorer repository, or ImandrA vault. The database may be managed by Hypertrieve, SQL Server, Oracle, or FileNet depending on the system.

document

folder view

A view that displays documents organized in a hierarchical structure of folders. See also "navigation view."

FS

full text search

A method of searching for text contained in document content as opposed to searching document metadata. See also "content indexing."

global groups

User groups that are stored in Microsoft Active Directory Services.

hybrid drawing

A drawing composed of both vector graphics and raster image files.

import

The process of creating a new document in a vault from a file located outside the vault.

inactive user

A user account that has been deactivated. The account is not deleted but the user cannot use the application. The account can be reactivated later.

installer

The installation csh-script.

KRONOCSV

A comma-separated value (CSV) format file used to import documents and files.

layout

A configurable arrangement of items on a form or page.

master document

In Meridian Enterprise, a released document from which one or more project copies are made that become either independent documents or new revisions of the master document. Master documents are designated by Meridian Enterprise and the Meridian Advanced Project Workflow Module. In Project Portal, a document to which is attached a master file. See also "reference document."

master file

A file attached to a master document and that refers to reference files.

metadata

Information that classifies, augments, or describes a document. Metadata is commonly used for searching purposes to find documents as opposed to searching for data within documents, known as full-text searching. Metadata may also be used for a variety of other purposes.

Organizational Unit. A hierarchical container in Microsoft Active Directory Services used with the Active Directory Connector.

pane

The area of a split or single window used to display related data and user interface elements.

PBS

Part Breakdown Structure file type. A comma-separated value (CSV) format file used to import folder structures.

privilege

The ability, assigned by an system administrator, of a user to view specific data or execute a specific command.

property

Descriptive data used to identify, classify, and find documents. Properties are organized into related groups called property sets.

property page

A secondary window, usually displayed with a tab, that displays the properties of an object such as a document.

publish

The process of creating a copy of a document, possibly in a different electronic format, into another information system.

purge

To completely and permanently delete data from a system.

query

A Structured Query Language (SQL) statement.

RAID

Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks

reference

A link that represents a relationship between two documents. References can be created automatically by Meridian Enterprise (e.g. AutoCAD External Reference) or manually by a user.

reference document

A document to which is attached a reference file. See also "master document."

reference file

An external reference file attached to a reference document and referred to by a master file.

review

To evaluate the validity of revisions to a document.

revision

A milestone in a document's history that represents approved information at particular point in time identified by a number or letter.

role

A named set of privileges to which users or groups are assigned by a system administrator.

RPC

Remote Procedure Call

saved search

A user-defined set of search criteria that is saved for future reuse.

server

A centralized computer or application that provides services to one or more client computers or applications in a network.

SID

System Identifier. A name that identifies a specific instance of a running Oracle database.

SMTP

Simple Mail Transport Protocol

snapshot

A copy of a database at a specific moment in time suitable for restoring.

SSL/TLS

Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Security Layer

thumbnail

A small preview image displayed to assist the user in identifying an image file.

URL

Uniform Resource Locator. Used to specify Internet and intranet addresses.

version

A document derived, copied, or rendered from another document of the same revision.

VPN

Virtual Private Network

WBS

Work Breakdown Structure. The value of the document property Work Package Number specifies its destination as the folder with the same value for the User code property.

workstation

A personal computer used by an individual in a network. A workstation is the client computer in a client/server system.

X-Ref

An AutoCAD drawing that is linked to, but not inserted into, the current drawing. Changes made to referenced drawings (X-Refs) are automatically displayed in the current drawing when the current drawing is opened.
